Not sure how to measure your roof for LightWeight Tiles .

Please select your roof from the types below. If your roof does not match one of the roofs below, please contact us with more details about your roof.

These are just a select few of our images available to work out what you need for your roof.

Step 1: Get Measurements

First measure the length's A and B (shown in the diagram).

2

LeantoPM

Step 2: Calculate area and tiles needed

Multiply the measurements A and B, this will give you the total square meterage of your roof.

A x B = C Total square meters

Take this square meterage and times that by 3 (as it's 3 tiles per square meter) It is recommended to add an extra 5% onto this figure to allow for wastage and any cutting errors.

C x 3 + 5% = Total amount of tiles required

Step 3: Eaves Guards, dry Verge and Flashing

To determine how many eaves guards use the length B. You can have one eaves guard per 1.5 meters of guttering (Divide length B by 1.5).

You may also need to add dry verges (to cover the edge A). Dry verges are required when the sides are not attached to another building. You will need left-hand dry verges to cover the side highlighted "A" on the diagram or right-hand versions for the opposite side. Each dry verge covers 0.94 linear meters, so:

  • If A is 3 (A ÷ 0.94 = Dry verge required) meters you should get 4. (You would need 4 right-hand dry verge and 4 left-hand dry verge)
  • If A is 2.5 meters 3 will be fine. (You would need 3 right-hand dry verge and 3 left-hand dry verge)

Finally, you will need to determine how much Ubiflex (Flashing) you will need. If your conservatory connects to the wall along B, then you will need the length of B for your Ubiflex requirements. If the conservatory also connects along A, then you will need to add that length to the total amount of Ubiflex needed. A roll of Ubiflex Flashing covers 6 linear meters so:

  • If B is 4.5 meters and A that is also attached to a wall is 1 meter, total Ubiflex required is 5.5 meters. So you would need just 1 roll of Ubiflex.

Step 1: Get measurements

First measure the length's A and B (shown in the diagram).

Step 2: Calculate area and tiles needed

Multiply the measurements A and B, this will give you the total square meterage of HALF your roof. Now multiply this number by 2 to get the total square meterage

A x B x 2 = C Total square meterage

Take this square meterage and times that by 3 (as it's 3 tiles per square meter) It is recommended to add an extra 5% onto this figure to allow for wastage and any cutting errors.

C x 3 + 5% = Total amount of tiles required

Step 3: Ridge Tiles, dry Verge and End Caps

To determine how many ridge tiles you need, just use the length of the ridge (length A). Each ridge tile covers 0.36 linear meters.

A ÷ 0.36 = Total amount of ridges required

You may also need to add dry verges (to cover the exposed edge B on the front and/or back, depending on if B is connected to another wall). You will need left and right-hand dry verges and 1 dry verge covers 0.94 meters, so:

  • If B is 3 meters (3 ÷ 0.94) with B being attached to another wall you would need 4 left and 4 right.
  • If B is 2.5 meters but B is not attached to another wall (2.5 ÷ 0.94) you should get 3 left and 3 right for the front and 3 left and 3 right for the back. Therefore a total of 6 left and 6 right dry verges.

Finally, you will need either 1 or 2 Ridge End Caps . 2 if B is not attached to another wall or 1 if B is attached to another wall.

Step 4: Calculate Eaves Guards and Flashing

To determine how many eaves guards use the length A and multiply this by 2. You can have one eaves guard per 1.5 meters of guttering (so divide this number by 1.5 and round up).

A x 2 = Total Gutter length ÷ 1.5 = Total amount of eaves guards required

Finally, you will need to determine how much flashing to buy. In most cases, this will be the length of B multiplied by 2. A roll of Ubiflex Flashing covers 6 linear meters.

Step 1: Get measurements

First you will need to measure the dimensions A, B, C, D and E.

2

EdwardianPM

Step 2: Calculate the area and tiles needed

First you should calculate the area of the triangle at the front. To do this multiply D by D, then divide by 2.

D x D ÷ 2 = X The front triangular area

Now calculate the area of B x C = Y

Then, there are two small triangular areas that are part of A that have not been calculated yet (Don't worry about where this area is on the diagram). This area should be the same as the front triangular area as you've calculated above (X)

You can then add all three area's together and times this number by 3 (as it's 3 tiles per square meter).

X + Y + X = Total square meterage x 3 = Total amount of tiles

However, as there is a lot of cutting involved we recommend adding another 5% onto this number.

Total amount of tiles + 5% = Total amount of tiles required including wastage.

This is quite a heavy part of the CALCULATIONS so if you are not sure please don't HESITATE to contact us

Step 3: Eaves Guards, End Caps, Ridge Tiles and Flashing

To determine how many eaves guards multiply length A by 2 and then add length E. You can have one eaves guard per 1.5 meters of guttering (so divide this number by 1.5 and round up).

A x 2 + E = Total gutter length ÷ 1.5 = Total amount of eaves guards required

You will need ridge tiles for the ridge (length C) plus the length of both lengths D (C + D + D). One ridge tile covers 0.36 linear meters.

C + D + D = Total ridge and hip length ÷ 0.36 = Total amount of ridges required

You will also need one ridge end cap for the end of each hip (where A meets E), so 2 end caps in total.

Finally, you will need to determine how much Ubiflex flashing to buy. In most cases this will be the length of B multiplied by 2. A roll of Ubiflex Flashing covers 6 linear meters.

Step 1: Get Measurements

Measure the distances A, B, C, D and E.

2

Step 2: Calculate area of roof and number of tiles

First, calculate the area of the triangular part of the roof over the front bays. To do this, multiply the length D by E and then multiply by 2 if your conservatory has 3 bays or multiply by 3 if your roof has 5 bays.

D x E x 2 = X Triangular area of a 3 bay conservatory

OR

D x E x 3 = X Triangular area of a 5 bay conservatory

Now to calculate the area of the remaining roof, which will be B multiplied by A, then multiplied by 2.

B x A x 2 = Y The area of the remaining part of the roof

You can then add the two area's together and times this number by 3 (as it's 3 tiles per square meter).

X + Y = Total square meterage x 3 = Total amount of tiles

As there is a lot of cutting involved we recommend adding another 5% to this number.

Total amount of tiles + 5% = Total amount of tiles required including wastage.

THIS IS QUITE A HEAVY PART OF THE CALCULATIONS SO IF YOU ARE NOT SURE please DON'T HESITATE TO CONTACT US

Step 3: Calculate Ridge tiles and End Caps

You will need ridge tiles for the ridge (length C) and each length D. Multiply D by the number of bays plus one and add then add length C:

D x (Number of Bays + 1) + C = Total ridge and hip length

Each ridge tile covers 0.36 meters so divide this number by 0.36.

Total ridge and hip length ÷ 0.36 = Total amount of ridges required

You will need a ridge end cap for each length D (so 3 for a 3 bay conservatory).

4

VictorianPM

Step 4: Calculate Eaves Guards and Flashing

You will need eaves guards for the total length of your guttering. This should be twice the length A plus length E multiplied by the number of bays:

A x 2 + (E x Number of Bays) = Total gutter Length

Each eaves guard covers 1.5 linear meters (so divide the gutter length by 1.5).

Total gutter Length ÷ 1.5 = Total amount of eaves guards required

You will need Ubiflex flashing for each edge that is joined to the house. Conventionally this will be the length of B multiplied by 2. Each roll of Ubiflex Flashing covers 6 linear meters.
