How can we seal or join ridge tiles to hips?

So, we have a few customers ask us what do you do when you have a hip meet the ridge tile? How would you seal it?

Unfortunately, at the moment we don’t manufacturer a specific product for this so with thanks to some of our customers we can show you some examples of how they have sealed the join.

One customer created a quick video for us showing how he cut the ridge tiles so they all joined and met at the middle point then sealed it using our Flexim Roof Putty.

Another customer joined the ridge tiles to the hips using our Led alternative Ubiflex.

Below are a few examples of our recent customer conservatories where they have a ridge tile meeting the hips. They have used both the Flexim Roof Putty and the Ubiflex.

Once the Ridge tiles and the Hips meet and are sealed with either our Flexim Roof Putty or our Ubiflex you can then use our repair Touch up kits which includes 1 x tin of Lacquer and 1 x bottle of granules to go over the top to blend it in with the colour of the tiles you have chosen. Or if you choose to use our Flexim roof putty you can order a bottle of granules as well and mix this into the Flexim so when you put it on the join the granules are already mixed in to complete the aesthetic finish.

The below image shows how the customer has used our Flexim Roof Putty and then sprinkled the Brown granules over the top to blend it in with the tiles.

This old building in our garden is known to us as the Ranch House. It is known to be at least 75 years old and may well be more. The roof in particular was falling apart, it was covered in corrugated bitumen sheeting which was well past its used by date. We had two choices; demolish it or renovate it. We decided to renovate but felt that it deserved something better than corrugated sheeting on the roof. This was why we selected Lightweight Tiles after several email exchanges with Laura and Susan plus going to meet Laura at the Renovation Show in Birmingham.

The hard part was completely rebuilding the roof structure as we decided to change the pitch of the roof. Fitting the tiles was easy. Two of us fitted 70 tiles on the long side in 5 hours which included a leisurely lunch and several cups of tea. I fitted the remaining 30 on the other side on my own in about the same time. I have one tip though, it is worth drilling a small pilot hole for each screw, you can then fit the screws much more neatly.

We are very pleased with the transformation, I keep going down the garden to look at it!
